INK & SOUL

OUR STORY IN INK

From a single tattoo station to Brooklyn's premier tattoo studio. Discover the journey, passion, and values behind Ink & Soul.

OUR JOURNEY

How Ink & Soul grew from a dream into Brooklyn's most trusted tattoo studio.

2008

The Beginning

Alex Morgan started tattooing in a small Brooklyn apartment, working nights after his day job. With just one tattoo machine and a passion for art, he began building a reputation for quality work and custom designs.

"I was tattooing friends and friends of friends. Every tattoo was a chance to prove that this was more than just a hobby—it was my calling." - Alex

2012

First Studio Space

With a growing client list, Alex opened his first small studio in Williamsburg. The 400-square-foot space had two tattoo stations and a reception area. The name "Ink & Soul" was born from Alex's philosophy that great tattoos connect body and spirit.

The studio quickly became known for its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to custom design over flash tattoos.

2015

Expansion & Team Building

Ink & Soul moved to its current Art District location, tripling in size. Alex hired two additional artists and a piercer, transforming the studio from a solo operation into a collaborative creative space.

The studio introduced its apprentice program this year, committing to training the next generation of tattoo artists with proper techniques and safety standards.

2018

Award Recognition

Ink & Soul won "Best Tattoo Studio in Brooklyn" at the NYC Art & Culture Awards. Multiple artists from the studio received awards at major tattoo conventions including the New York Tattoo Convention and Empire State Tattoo Expo.

The studio implemented its current sterilization protocols, exceeding health department requirements with hospital-grade autoclaves and single-use equipment.

2022

Community Initiatives

Launched the "Healing Through Art" program, offering free cover-up tattoos for survivors of domestic violence. The studio also began hosting monthly art exhibitions featuring local artists.

Expanded services to include professional piercing with APP-certified standards and opened an online shop for prints and merchandise.

Today

Brooklyn's Premier Studio

Today, Ink & Soul is a 6-artist studio with multiple piercing specialists and support staff. We've tattooed over 3,200 clients and continue to innovate in tattoo artistry while maintaining our commitment to safety, quality, and community.

Our focus remains on custom design, client collaboration, and creating a welcoming space where everyone can feel comfortable getting tattooed.

OUR MISSION & VALUES

What drives everything we do at Ink & Soul.

Artistic Excellence

We believe tattoos are permanent art that should meet the highest standards of craftsmanship. Every design receives the same attention to detail, whether it's a small symbol or a full sleeve.

Our artists continuously develop their skills through workshops, conventions, and collaboration.

Safety First

Your health and safety are non-negotiable. We maintain medical-grade sterilization protocols, use single-use equipment, and follow all health department regulations—exceeding requirements whenever possible.

All artists are certified in bloodborne pathogen training and cross-contamination prevention.

Inclusive Environment

We welcome people of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels. Our studio is a judgment-free zone where everyone can feel comfortable expressing themselves through body art.

We're committed to creating a space where first-timers and tattoo collectors alike feel equally welcome.

CORE VALUES

The principles that guide every decision we make.

Client-Centered Approach

Every tattoo begins with listening. We take the time to understand your story, your vision, and your concerns. We believe the best tattoos come from collaboration between artist and client.

This means honest consultations, transparent pricing, and never pressuring clients into decisions.

Quality Without Compromise

We use only premium, vegan-friendly inks from reputable brands and implant-grade jewelry for piercings. Our equipment is regularly maintained and updated with the latest technology.

We'd rather turn down a project than compromise on the quality of our work or materials.

Continuous Growth

The tattoo industry is always evolving, and so are we. Our artists regularly attend conventions, workshops, and training sessions to stay at the forefront of techniques and trends.

We invest in our team's development through our apprentice program and ongoing education.

Community Responsibility

We believe in giving back to the community that supports us. Through charitable initiatives, local art exhibitions, and educational outreach, we strive to be more than just a business.

Our "Healing Through Art" program offers free cover-up tattoos for survivors of domestic violence.

WHY CHOOSE INK & SOUL?

What sets our studio apart from the rest.

Medical-Grade Sterilization

Our sterilization room features hospital-grade autoclaves that exceed health department requirements. All non-disposable equipment undergoes a multi-step sterilization process, and we use single-use needles, tubes, and grips for every client. Our sterilization protocols are regularly audited to ensure the highest safety standards.

Custom Design Focus

Unlike many studios that rely on flash (pre-drawn designs), we specialize in custom work. Every tattoo is designed specifically for the client, considering their anatomy, style preferences, and personal meaning. Our consultation process ensures that each design is perfectly tailored before any ink touches skin.

Collaborative Artist Environment

Our artists work together, not in competition. They regularly consult each other on complex projects, share techniques, and support each other's growth. This collaborative environment means clients benefit from multiple perspectives and expertise when planning their tattoos.

Welcoming Atmosphere

We've designed our studio to feel welcoming, not intimidating. From comfortable seating and art exhibitions in the waiting area to private consultation rooms, every detail is intended to make clients feel at ease. First-timers and seasoned collectors alike appreciate our friendly, professional environment.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

How we give back to Brooklyn and beyond.

Healing Through Art Program

Since 2022, we've offered free cover-up tattoos for survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and hate crimes. These tattoos help transform symbols of trauma into art that represents healing, strength, and renewal.

The program includes:

  • Free consultation and design sessions with trauma-informed artists
  • Complete cover-up tattoos at no cost
  • Aftercare support and follow-up appointments
  • Partnership with local support organizations for referrals

To date, we've completed over 50 transformative cover-ups through this program.

Local Art Support

Every month, we host exhibitions featuring local Brooklyn artists in our studio gallery space. These exhibitions:

  • Provide exposure for emerging artists with no commission fees
  • Connect the tattoo community with other art forms
  • Offer clients a gallery experience while waiting for appointments
  • Feature diverse artists from across Brooklyn's neighborhoods

We also offer discounted studio space for art classes and workshops, supporting arts education in our community.

Apprentice Program

Our structured apprentice program trains the next generation of tattoo artists with proper techniques, safety standards, and ethical business practices. We're committed to elevating the entire industry through quality education.
